As most of you know, especially those who have been following my writing journey, I had a few goals for 2017. But not all of these were quite achieved, if at all. Most importantly, I had planned to start writing my follow-up book, about living with my son's autism, through his teenage years, but we all know that didn't happen!
Mainly because, I was taken completely unaware with all the forms that I needed to fill in and submit for my special needs son, who turned 18 this year, and who is now considered an adult, despite the fact he is still very much a young person and that I still have to do most things for him, as his Legal Guardian, Carer and Mother.
The amount of paperwork and bureaucracy I had to deal with and complete, which also included a Civil Court hearing, just to apply for and state my case as to why I needed to be the legal guardian of my 18 year old adult son, was nothing short of a nightmare and a mind boggling experience, to put it mildly!
It seems, that year after year, I am constantly required to state my case, as to why I need to always advocate and do certain things for my son, who in the eyes of the law, is now a legal adult; yet he is an adult with a child's mind, which requires me, as his mother, and as his full-time carer, to also be his legal guardian and administrator, for all of his financial affairs! Not to mention other unforeseen circumstances that have occurred throughout 2017, but that's another story for another time. Meanwhile, my own book and article writing has slipped further and further behind...
However, all is not lost, it would seem! Because, whilst I have been writing submissions and filling in endless forms, I have discovered that I can use most of these ramblings in any future article, blog, or memoir writings, including this blog post, for example. That is, if I ever get the time to Write, without always being snowed under with the never ending paperwork - and then there is the N.D.I.S. (National Disability Insurance Scheme) paperwork yet to be completed from early next year (and which will be ongoing, year after year) for the introduction of this scheme, which will be "rolled out"nationally by 2018.
So while I have appeared to be quiet on here and have not blogged very much about my writing, please don't let that mislead you into thinking that I haven't done any writing at all - in fact - it has been the complete opposite! I have been constantly writing, writing and writing, all of which I have kept copies (either in hard copy or on my mobile memo) for future writing reference!
So, as this year of 2017, fast comes to a close and the New Year of 2018 approaches just as fast, and will probably go just as fast, before most of us are even ready for it, let's hope that I can at least be given some actual writing time next year, so that I might be able to get back to what I love to do, and that is to write...
Happy New Year for 2018 everyone and may the New Year be a little kinder to those of us who find the years are always going by way too fast...
Happy Writing Everyone...
